At Poole High School you will undertake a stable careers programme provided through a variety of delivery. By way of the tutor time programme, assemblies, workshops, presentations, guest speakers, challenges & competitions, enterprising initiatives, work place visits, work experience and careers fairs, you will develop knowledge and understanding of opportunities available post 16 and 18 as well as timely labour market information in order to help you make informed decisions about your future.

By the end of year 11 you will also have attended a careers guidance appointment with a level 6 qualified careers adviser and further opportunities for appointments are made available should you progress to our sixth form. Of course, you can request an appointment at any time and we would like you to be aware that students can access  an online advisor via the National Careers Service from 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

Start is a free, online careers platform designed to connect 11-18 year olds with their future career potential.

Start combines the most comprehensive source of information with a personalised experience and career planning tools, helping students to make more informed decisions about future study and career options, as well as developing employability. Start includes:

A student profile: students build their profile and access personalised study and career information.

Modules: activities to guide students through the information on Start at the right time.

Up to date information: engaging content on what to study, where to learn and the world of work.

Locker: an online record of achievement to evidence skills for future applications and CVs.

Employability action plan: Students can set goals and stay in control of their career planning.

It’s really useful to be aware of the current labour market as this can help you see where job demands are. Knowing what is available right on your doorstep to looking at the picture up and down the country can help you further in making informed decisions.

Our Gatsby Benchmarks

Gatsby is the measure by which schools evaluate their careers provision.

There are eight benchmarks made up of 43 criteria. We are delighted to share that we have successfully demonstrated meeting each of these criteria as of Feb 2020. We are extremely proud of this, particularly as the average score across Dorset schools is 3.2 and only 7% of schools nationally have achieved all 8.
